Miracles

A lecture by

  What men perceive as 'Miracles' come in all shapes and sizes, so we need to be clear what we are talking about when we use this term. The lecture begins, therefore, by classifying miracles as follows: biblical miracles (including creation); modern miracles (e.g. 'healing ministries'); experiential miracles (e.g. answered prayer);
and spiritual miracles (e.g. conversion).
Each class of miracles is defined (and where necessary further subdivided) before being evaluated.

We then consider critically the attitudes taken
towards the miraculous by (respectively)
atheists, deists, 'deistic-theists' and theists.

Finally, a thoroughly biblical view of miracles will be presented that avoids the many problems identified in the previous section of the lecture. This view is based upon the Bible doctrine of the sovereignty of God over all creation and the centrality of Christ to biblical revelation.
